The Middle-East Construction Giant (CCC) and WakeCap Technologies Inc. Prepare Strategic Partnership to Empower Construction Workers with Innovative IoT Technology
The Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and WakeCap Technologies Inc. are at the last phase of announcing their strategic partnership centered around empowering CCC’s construction manpower with WakeCap’s innovative IoT solution that connects workers to management for a safer and more efficient project delivery. The CCC megaproject will witness this pilot implementation at the 70-story Opera Grand Tower Project in Dubai where management will be able to achieve total worksite visibility over 400 workers, improve communication and injury response times, and reduce time spent on collecting data on worker attendance, location and project progress.
“Being the largest construction company here, one of our main pillars of focus is safety and when we looked at startups in the construction industry, we found WakeCap” says Aref Boualwan, Manager of MIS and Business Process Reengineering at CCC.
"After meeting with Hassan personally, his passion to make this product a reality made us believe in the product even further”. Aref Boualwan is also an executive board member of CCT International, which provides construction project control and management solutions to CCC.
WakeCap is a safety & tracking device attached to standard construction helmets that workers simply wear to provide managers and decision makers with real-time, cloud-based visibility into each worker’s daily attendance, live-location and accidents, as well as to enable a two-way alerting system for workers to report hazards on the spot and receive easy evacuation alerts. The partners will also be leveraging WakeCap’s infrastructure to jointly develop customized use cases to meet the needs of CCC workers. One of the features being developed is a live heat map enabled by WakeCap’s sensors to help workers manage heat-stress during the summer season.
“Plenty of innovation is taking place at the office front of construction but only a few teams are tackling the mega-dynamic onsite operations to control the rampant labor costs and improve the lacking safety measures. At WakeCap, we envisioned a fully digital, automated and connected construction site” Hassan Albalawi, CEO and Founder of WakeCap explains. ”This unexplored path is paved with challenges that CCC’s unrivaled scale, geographically diversified projects and appetite for innovation will help us overcome. By piloting WakeCap in one of their prime projects in Dubai, CCC site supervisors and company management will be able to see where workers are on the jobsite and receive alerts to any safety issues in real-time. This level of visibility and actionable data helps them proactively improve safety, protect their workers, and achieve greater productivity.”
As part of the partnership, WakeCap announced that they have received a $300K SEED funding round from CCC. Hassan Albalawi, CEO & Founder of WakeCap, shared his thoughts about the fundraise: “We are excited to share our vision with CCC because this esteemed organization is an indispensable strategic partner in supporting WakeCap’s mission of disrupting the construction sector without disrupting the work. With this partnership we leverage on the vast experience and knowledge CCC comes on board and will help us in building the product better and deliver the pilot successfullly.” he told MAGNiTT.
"Our goal is to raise a total of $1.5 million. We decided to keep the round open for the next 6 months and adjust the terms going forward. Most of the funds will be utilized for R&D and finalising the new design of our products. We are currently running a pilot with CCC at the Opera Grand Tower Project next to Burj Khalifa. The funds will help us run the pilot more efficiently and also we plan to run multiple pilots with other clients. We are expanding our team and developing the software solution."
