HBMSU launches University Entrepreneurship Programme

Move falls in line with 'Fifty Year Charter' and unified effort to prepare cognitively qualified entrepreneurs
The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) announced the launch of the ‘University Entrepreneurship Programme,’ falling in line with the framework of facilitating a faster adoption and implementation of the sixth article of the 50-Year Charter, which embodies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform national and private-owned universities into economic and creative free zones that encourage innovation and entrepreneurship among learners.
The launch of the new program falls in line with the framework of the implementation of the initiative "University Business Incubator Program IN5," which is supervised by Dubai Future Foundation, with the aim of achieving the goals of Dubai strategy for university free zones in cooperation between government entities in the emirate, universities, academic institutions and research firms, to achieve the goals of the ‘50 Year Charter.’
The ‘University Entrepreneurship Programme’ aims to integrate a quality focused university education with the government initiative that aims to provide the young generation with the tools necessary in pursuing entrepreneurship to keep pace with the requirements of comprehensive development and the changes of the 21st century, and strengthens the path of leadership in building national capabilities in the field of entrepreneurship to advance comprehensive and sustainable development in the UAE.
The entrepreneurship programme looks towards selecting the best emerging project ideas annually from HBMSU and set off the journey towards entrepreneurship. Learners can benefit from a range of support systems designed to establish an ideal environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
H.E. Khalfan Belhoul: Establishing the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among university learners
H.E. Khalfan Juma Belhoul, CEO, Dubai Future Foundation, emphasized on Dubai’s university free zones strategy, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, to provide an ideal environment to embrace young talents and develop their capabilities and support their contribution in the vital sectors in Dubai, to build generations able to participate in building a future based on innovative knowledge.
H.E. Khalfan Belhoul praised the efforts of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University to activate the outputs of the University Business Incubators Program, which is based on the partnership of government and private entities, universities and academic institutions to consolidate the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among learners and prepare them to keep pace with future changes in various economic sectors and enable them to enter the world of entrepreneurship with confidence and knowledge based.

Dr. Al Awar said: “The launch of the ‘University Entrepreneurial Programme’ is the crowning achievement of HBMSU’s leading efforts as one of the first supporters to the 50-Year Charter which embodies the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum in transforming universities into economic and creative free zones. It is in line with the vision of HBMSU to produce graduates that are entrepreneurs, innovators, knowledge ambassadors, nation builders and future makers rather than job seekers. Furthermore, the programme follows the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of HBMSU, to create an advanced education environment that envisions the future, and equips the youth with knowledge and expertise that will enable them to harness a culture of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship in order to serve the aspirations of our wise leadership in ensuring the continuity of prosperity, welfare and development for us and our future generations.”
Al Awar explained that the new programme’ arises from the importance of entrepreneurship in driving growth for the national economy and a vital contributor to creating job opportunities for the Emirati youth. He further noted the university's commitment to promote fruitful partnerships and cooperation with the elite of national and international entities such as the Dubai Future Foundation.
Al Awar said: “Through our cooperation with the foundation, we have successfully moved towards providing the young generation with powerful knowledge-based tools that will help them hone their talents and achieve excellence. We are optimistic about the programme and we look forward to its success, in line with the Dubai University Free Zones Strategy, which establishes a new stage of success in supporting youth dreams and aspirations according to an innovative and advanced educational system that will enhance Dubai's position as a regional center for optimal investment in youth energies and developing a new generation of educational concepts by relying on innovation and technology.”

Academic and knowledge leadership
The HBMSU Chancellor showcased to H.E. Khalfan Juma Belhoul and Dubai Future Foundation delegation the distinctive features of the advanced and technological infrastructure of HBMSU, highlighting its successful milestones in terms of reengineering higher education locally, regionally and globally through its adoption of the smart learning approach, based on integrating advanced technology in the development of the educational system.
The delegation went on a tour around the university to see the leading business models displayed in the university's ‘Entrepreneur Center,’ which showcased many creative ideas of the youth.
Promising future projects
The visiting delegation also learned about several pioneering projects, primarily the ‘A'amn’ project, a bus control system developed by a group of HBMS learners aimed to notify drivers and school supervisors regarding the concern of children being forgotten inside the school bus. The project goes along with the ‘Scan and Go’ system, which provides customers with the ability to scan the barcode sensors of products and goods using their smartphones, thus reducing time and effort while shopping. The ‘YOUniverse’ application aimed at helping students better understand their lives, positive ways of dealing with stress and pressure, and effective ways to manage their time, among others.
