GEEKS raises $600,000 in seed funding
Dubai-based IT platform Geeks announced that it has raised a $600,000 seed round led by Wamda Capital. The round also included investment group Equitrust and Bayt.com CEO Rabea Ataya.
The company, which was cofounded by Mousa Yassin and Fathi Sharif in 2014, specialises in providing IT services and support. It currently operates in the UAE and plans to use the seed money for expanding into several GCC countries in 2017.
The tech support company focuses on providing services at the customer’s location to ensure that daily workflows aren’t interrupted in the event of an IT problem. It achieves this with a platform which helps SMEs constantly monitor their IT health and provides a dedicated support person to help as soon as a problem is detected.
Speaking to Wamda, Geeks CEO Yassin said: “Our vision for the platform is to become the common IT management hub for SMEs just like Quickbooks is for accounting and Zenefits is for HR.”
“To offer high end services we focused on developing a backend technology that allows us to deliver a frictionless service to our customers. The front end was built on Angular JS and the backend covers the end to end cycle of a request,” added Yassin.
In addition to IT support, the company offers repair services for laptops, PCs, mobile phones and tablets and it does so on location. It also offers a delivery and pickup option for its customers.
In the past year, Geeks has worked with 6,500 customers, fixing 3,500 phones, 2,400 laptops, and 600 tablets.
