65 Participants From All Over Palestine Partake In AngelHack Ramallah Hackathon 2018
AngelHack Ramallah Hackathon was held in Palestine on August 9th. It aims to motivate young entrepreneurs to drive technological ideas and to come up with awesome pioneering ideas. AngelHack 2018 saw the participation of about 65 participants from all over Palestine.
The event was organized by Growth, in partnership with Bank of Palestine and ArabWIC. It was also sponsored by Polish aid & Palestine for Sustainable Development , and supported by Ibtikar Fund, Pitman English and Careem.
During the first day, Mr. Salah Amleh, the director of Growth, started by welcoming the attendees and giving an introduction about the AngelHack. Then, each of ArabWIC, MIT, and uMake talked about their organizations and how they support entrepreneurship. Eventually, Christina Wilson, the regional director of AngelHack introduced the participants the conditions of the competition to determine the teams to start competing. She also provided a training workshop for the teams to help them present their idea. Also, it should be noted that the event included mentors from different fields to help and guide the teams in their entrepreneurial ideas
The first day ended with the formation of the teams, where they worked for a continuous period that continued for the next day until 3:00 pm. Each team then presented its idea to the judges, which included Raya Sbitani, Rasha Qawasmi, Ambar Amleh, Sameh al-Far, Nael Ramadan.
At the end, three best ideas were chosen. In the third place was the Rejoy team. The idea was about recycling plastic waste in a joyful way that would benefit the environment and all users. They received a 100 USD credit from Careem. The second place was "Stadav" team. The idea of an application of booking of stadiums and sports building and sports tickets. The team received a free of charge of English course provided by Pitman English. The Smart Public Transportation "won the first place for the best idea. Their idea aims to help users optimize their journey, improves efficiency and transparency for public transportation riders, with drivers using an application that provides real-time information regarding the location of public transport buses. AngelHack will provide them access to 13 weeks acceleration at Hackcelerator program.
